# Squads

> Squads (https://squads.xxox-xxox-xxox.jp/) is a free football (soccer) tactics board and formation maker. Use it to plan team strategy, simulate formations and starting lineups, animate plays, and share them. No account is required, and it works on desktop and mobile. The user interface is available in English and Japanese (it follows the browser language and can be switched in the header).

## Features

- Tactics board: place 11 players on the pitch with drag and drop to plan strategy
- Simulate formations and starting lineups by switching presets and swapping players
- Formation presets (25): 4-4-2 Flat, 4-4-2 Diamond, 4-4-1-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-2-4, 4-3-1-2, 4-2-2-2, 4-5-1, 4-6-0, 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 3-2-4-1, 3-2-5, 5-3-2, 5-4-1, 5-2-3 and classics (WM, Metodo, Catenaccio, 4-4-2 Libero)
- Formation builder: build a custom formation line by line (players per line, shape, height, width, lanes)
- Assign starters and substitutes from a roster; edit player names, shirt numbers and position labels
- Customize piece shapes (circle, shirt, person), patterns and team colors (1–2 colors)
- Change pitch orientation (up/down/left/right), grass color, line color and stripe pattern
- Export as a PNG image
- Dynamic mode (desktop): place both teams and the ball anywhere on a full pitch, chain scenes on a timeline, and play back the movement like a match sequence; set the transition time per scene and when each player moves (up to 30 scenes / 60 seconds)
- Export a dynamic play as an MP4 video (H.264, 30 fps, up to 1920×1080; portrait for a vertical pitch), rendered in the browser
- Share via a URL: the formation data is encoded in the URL fragment (`#d=…`) and never stored on a server; shared links open as a read-only preview
- Embed in blogs or websites with an iframe, or integrate into apps with a JavaScript SDK / postMessage API

## AI assistants (MCP)

- MCP server (Streamable HTTP, no auth): `https://squads.xxox-xxox-xxox.jp/mcp`
- `list_formations`: how formations are built (5 rows, pairs, slot IDs) and the 25 preset formations
- `create_squad`: draws a line-up (and optionally an opponent) from a preset and/or rows, with players assigned to slot IDs, and returns a share URL and a summary to confirm with the user
- `create_play`: animates pieces and the ball scene by scene on the full pitch (build-up, pressing, set pieces, match situations; opponent optional) and returns a share URL of the play and the positions in each scene to confirm with the user
- In hosts that support MCP Apps (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude), create_squad and create_play also render the board inside the chat (plays can be played back and stepped through)

## Data and privacy

- In the app, data is saved only in the browser's localStorage and is never sent to the operator's servers. When used from an AI assistant via MCP, the line-up or play is processed on the server to create a share URL and is not stored
- Videos are encoded in the browser and downloaded directly; they are not uploaded anywhere
- No cookies, analytics or ads
- Free to use and embed; optional paid development support is accepted (via Stripe)
